I believe you knew I'd be here in this place with the odds against me. And you tried to make me see that they wouldn't care and I shouldn't dare their meaning. It never made any sense the pain you felt or the bitter hurt but sometimes you'd answer yes and explain it like you knew what it meant... And you'd dance on the sand you would dance and I didn't understand you would dance dance dance dance dance dance, with that laugh. Your manner could reveal the proof of kindness that defeats neglect. In your heart it was concealed to love so much that you'd fight the darkened feeling. Your memory could touch a kind of picture that would keep you there to be free it meant so much but your fate it had been chained rearranged. So you'd dance on the sand you would dance and I didn't understand you would dance dance dance dance dance dance, with that laugh. And I'm not afraid anymore 'cause I've learned what your promise bestowed. Patient wind still blows. And you'd dance on the sand you would dance and I couldn't understand you would dance dance dance dance dance dance, with that laugh. Yea you'd dance on the sand you would dance and I didn't understand you would dance dance dance dance dance dance, with that laugh.

Child (1978) 01:49
Child it must be hard for you they keep tensing up your slack. but all the patience in the world wouldn't make you understand You leave the breast so early learning all the little facts, stumble through the emotions, find your way and back find your way and back Your'e learning about fortune it's easy to get lucky but it's so hard to find fortune you're learning about fate. One thing you do control you control your life don't ever lose your logic keep good hold of your mind. And though this world is rough sometimes listen to my advice, if your morals get shredded change the reason why, change the reason why, You gotta let go of what's bringing you down, You gotta grab hold of what's bringing 'you round. Your'e learning about fortune it's easy to get lucky but it's so hard to find fortune you're learning about fate.

Christine 03:28
Christine lovely in my heart a part of me in her eyes I see so far. She smiles to me I see a color in her heart a love above she see's leads me to the start. Christine lovely in my heart forever I've loved her from the start I go she knows toward home she lets my memory roam, I lay my head she says rest we're on our way. When I saw you your face came shining through a light that cleared the view and when you are away I'll always feel the same I believe Christine lovely in my heart a part of me in her eyes I see so far So long this song will sing for her I've heard a word so sure whispers a voice so true Christine Christine Christine

Decide 04:13
Ignoring the warnings the virtues are turning away. Blissful a mouthful of destiny we won't escape Stagnation the nation is selling the gangsters we face The temptation is winning it's hinting the darkness today So when will you decide the excuse is not the times our freedom is so blind when will you decide? I'd struggle and huddle and plan out the courses to take. I'd reject and expect a change for the pain in this world The answer I find that sometimes choices were not their own. Exploited and weakened through time because they could not hold out When will you decide the excuse is not the times in our wisdom we're so blind when will you decide and the time it is upon us the truths unfolding all around us we face the life we've made waiting so long this test of patience you better find your true love and hold on you better make your choice and decide. The protests are senseless our banner's become obsolete The reason believe it our greed will explode in our face Wake up but shut up just dig down to strengthen your faith. False prophets are godless don't let them lead you away. When will you decide the excuse is not the times our leaders are so blind when will you decide When will you decide the excuse is not times we can't leave it all behind. when will you decide
5.
Your physical right, a spiritual guess, an infant being thirsts for a choice to know what's real & what's concealed in a box where we hear a voice. it says open me because you wish to see, but a body cannot hold the truth so every day live by faith, & listen to this wisdom l bring you. Would you give a baby a double edged knife for if you don't prepare and learn by prayer the danger there will take life A vain mistake, accepting self, claiming God as your image in you for your image dies as his image cries for in flesh he will not accept you Sacred love comes from above he fights for sight in our hearts, it's a fine line to walk learning right from the wrong as you're hungry wait for his proof. Would you give a baby a double edged knife and can you see poison will breed deceitfully leading you blind? Would you give a baby a double edged knife? and will your spirit will bleed endlessly regretfully without light? Would you give a baby a double edged knife?because there's a war out there blood without air spilling darkness into the night.

We can all get lost when we make a choice and you're in so deep can't recall that voice that guided you agreed with you so you wait for the day when you'll feel just the same but when you open your eyes and then you realize it makes your heart to cry where has it gone where has it gone? Remember dreams come true remember dreams come true I'll sing this song for you remember dreams come true. And it's hard to solve and it scares you there's so much involved don't know what to do no easy way it's like a weight so it stays inside as you bide the time And I know you've worked and you've tried and there's faith in your eyes but he can't see so you cry feel so alone fell all alone Remember dreams come true remember dreams come true I'll sing this song for you remember dreams come true. Don't you cry I'll make it right stand by your side and cover your life and when you open your eyes then you realize that your heart's filled with time it lasts so long it lasts so long Remember dreams come true remember dreams come true I'll sing this song for you Remember dreams come true. Remember dreams come true remember dreams come true I'll sing this song for you remember dreams come true. Remember dreams come true remember dreams come true I'll sing this song for you remember dreams come true

I looked around the room your smile told me what to do. I turned a chance toward you then we fell in love so soon The strength we shared said we would last but now it seems we've shared too fast. an abnormal circumstance but I won't let it chain our hands Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you This passionate scene this is my dream you see scheming past the pain I wouldn't change it in a day Too easy just to judge my conscience's had enough should of's in the way but what we shared is still the same Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you and I'll never find another girl as sweet as you and you'll never find another guy who'll do what I do I'm going be a good boy like my first day in school take hold of my hand I've got a lot to prove. We're scared to try because it hurts but there's a lesson we can learn I never will accept the dark it's just a test for our hearts there's so much we must face there's a world that we can change Youth waiting to be saved don't let it go to waste. Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you I remember how we danced locked together in a trance This love deserves another chance because our romance it can last So gentle next to you feel it softly when we move This is more than chemistry I've just got to make you see. Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you Well I'm not gonna die I'm not gonna die I'm gonna try I'm gonna fight for you

Fuel 02:52
I've never heard the words that hide in a dream and I'll never learn so I search but it's hiding from me but there's fuel I know a little goes a long long long way. It can't be beat to see the smile in her eyes she turns away so I wait to graze her disguise and there's fuel I know a little goes a long long long way I walk the beach I feel the sun it's shining on me there's fuel to warm my skin When I make a choice my voice says what in the world can I do? I can't decide can't find somebody I can talk to but I choose and my fuel goes a long long long way.

Guitar 04:11
I'm looking at the world through my archaic eye I see fierce competition and ignorant crimes. Our youth has been raped I see the tears that they cry, they seek to be healed they need time. So I keep it in my heart like a loaded gun our pattering pleas because you slander love but you better watch out because when I'm done, now I make the rules and you're gone. I got a guitar I got a guitar I got a guitar and I'm taking over these airwaves. So you blacklist the airwaves try and keep me down but you can't argue talent and I'll be around yeah I'm moving straight ahead and i won't hear the sound you're not going to last hit the ground because we asked for change and tried the proper approach. but the system's so corrupt because the power is owned. and the wrong people clone because they're money controlled but they'll choke on their greed fill the hole. I got a guitar I got a guitar I got a guitar and I'm taking over these airwaves. [Bridge] I look back on ten years of time how they've silenced our voice is a crime The music bleeds where can it be? I see the generation that didn't exist. Now the chosen ones are few but the chosen one's know the world we have can change and music hint's the cue we're a soul glued like ants and we[ll never give up let it ring through the land through our hearts You make a choice and if you claim it, it's yours. so pay attention because you're pointing the world. we need our strength not to fall once again it's time we realize life doesn't end I got a guitar I got a guitar I got a guitar and I'm taking over these airwaves I'm going to go far I'm going to go far I'm going to go far, when I get through you'll remember my name. I don't want to be a rock n roll star I just want to be program director.

Brent Alan Beck - Life's Too Short E, EbAug, D, Dbminor E, EbAug, E, EbAug I still remember when I first met you, it seemed your heart was filled with charm. I fell in love & I couldn't see through, I was so thrilled to have you around. I can't recall when your feelings they changed from softness new to this threatening frown? Don't know what happened to the lover I knew you're so wrapped up in just proving me wrong. Life's too short for us to stay, to hurt each other in this way? You make me cry & it's not fair. You wonder why my feelings they have changed. I tried so hard to make amends so you'd know, I really care but you never hear? You never even cared enough about yourself to face the fears you say don't exist. Ignore the truth but when you take the fall I vow I won't be responsible. Our happiness it must be self-disclosed but you insist to lay the weight upon me. Life's too short for us to stay, to hurt each other in this way? I want to leave & I'm so scared but life's too short to be afraid. And you didn't think I'd do it that I'd say goodbye but you took us for granted, you didn't even try, I'll fend off your false heart I'll swallow the pain, but one day I'll be stronger & I'll love again. I hesitate in the decision I've made, at first I panic then I catch my breath. It's for the best 'cause if I listen to you, I know my dreams will never come true. Can't be concerned about the secrets we've shared, you've used my heart to prove you're a man. I can't believe all the things that you say, you've burned the bridge & I won't come back. Life's too short for us to stay, to hurt each other in this way? You make me cry & it's not fair. You wonder why my feelings they have changed. Life's too short.

Part of Lonely Ever since I’ve wanted to know the difference of a wish & a hand to hold I couldn’t find a soul who’d know what I mean when I say I need you, say it back, I’ll give you something more. Proof of what I’ve found says there isn’t a key, alone I breathe. But I’ve never known my reflection to believe me. A different part of lonely. A different part of lonely & I’ve always know my heart to retrieve me A different part of lonely A different part of lonely My love stll cries out for the search & the ones who’ve lost their way, ’cause I know how faith can fall from our hands. There’s too much desire, and hunger never wants to wait. We seldom find a trust that will last, it’s too fast. But I’ve never known my reflection to believe me. A different part of lonely. A different part of lonely & I’ve always know my heart to retrieve me A different part of lonely A different part of lonely

Sinking Ship 02:07
With high ideals I left the starting gate, ignored the fact a fool would be too late. My hopes are ransom for a needed change. Because nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship? When friendship is a word and not a bond, and I talk about the world and they all laugh, but they'll think about their freedom when it's gone. Nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship? How can I tell you the things that I know? How can I tell you when you've never heard before? How can I tell you the things that I know, How can I tell you, when you've never learned before? When guilt like cancer spreads inside of me, I can't explain my pride won't set me free, I pulling for the day to find a way. Because nobody understands a sinking ship. Nobody understands, a sinking ship? Spinning wheels I leave the starting gate, I ignore the fact a fool will be too late. My hopes are ransom, freedom on a chain. Because nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship? Hear me, nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship? Nobody understands, a sinking ship?

about

In nineteen eighty six...

these songs above caught the attention of many a professional artist. There were gathering's at Mad Dog Studio's on Lincoln Blvd in Venice. Philly steak sandwiches were all the rage.

Those people were concerned with songwriting & melody of any song and even my carefully constructed musicianship at that time caught the attention of a few there because the four tracks I had produced were very perfectly put down on each track so everyone there hearing the songs through the Mad Dog studio playback could hear the musicianship of each separate track with me performing two guitars, rhythm and lead, keyboards, and, vocals. So the tracks it was thought were "small," maybe "small masterpieces that only needed" regular "larger recording in an actual regular music studio?" Dusty Wakeman at Mad Dog Studio talked about treating drum tracks with new various drum effects, and for whatever the case was, I instead ended up booking studio time at the Studio Suite in Glendale. Walter Egan eventually talked on the radio about the new Missing Link recordings from The Studio Suite as "being done on large sixteen track tape" thus verifying the simple concept of taking four tracks to professional recording studio quality because the previous live recordings of the Missing Link band played on KXLU FM were recorded on a four track, miced to one channel. Those one channel recording's were the first of the entire band, now lost, that Jim Dunfred on KXLU FM initially played on his radio program, Surf Wave. The future was looking up, there was no reason for it not to?

These four track songs above here, also were recorded using a Casio Drum Machine for simply keeping time, but the professional musicians then, could determine their listening beyond that, to how the songs may sound if we recorded them at Mad Dog? These four track songs also were recorded using that new product of Tom Schulz from super group Boston, a Rockman Guitar Device for using inline recording instead of traditionally what was usually mic-ed guitar amplifiers & instruments. The Rockman enabled a person living in for say an apartment to make recordings without neighbor's being disturbed by loud musical sounds.

These four tracks recorded into Tascam's, then new, Porta One Four Track Recorder. Previous to that & Initially, some of these songs were recorded on a BIC T-4 cassette deck because of it's unique two track mic/line recording ability, at the time which was unusual for any retail cassette recording & playback unit.

So "The Bedroom Tapes," as coined by Jim flooded the radio airwaves in the Southbay area on Surfwave. I was extremely grateful Jim Dunfred played these live band recordings then, although, I could not foster him to interview me on the air, which he often would do with more established artists.

"So where were the studio recorded songs going to come from?" I had been through many a conversation's by then with Walter Egan who later produced four of these songs in nineteen eighty-seven. Whenever I'd mention major record label's such as CBS where he spent much of his career as a professional artist, he responded with blurbs here and there about music executive Irving Azoff or producer Earle Mankey, but Walter's getting Missing Link also signed by such people did not materialize. It was nineteen eighty seven, being fed up with still "waiting" from nineteen eighty-four through nineteen eighty six and getting no record label attention, Walter Egan then agreed to produce & record four songs that eventually received new radio airplay on KROQ, besides the four-tracks or live one channel tracks once played on Surfwave. It could be notated that Walter Egan and other major label artists I had worked with, never themselves after nineteen eighty three ever were signed to major labels again with them instead self promoting, self recording and self distributing their music and careers to this day although they do have resulting prominence from their initial major label work and recordings. The major label people they were familiar with were not interacting with them anymore then and they have not released any new major label recordings.

Missing Link Music Bio:
Forming in early eighties from the songwriting of Brent Alan Beck, The Missing Link, an EP of four songs were quickly recorded & produced by Columbia Artist Walter Egan. These are the first four songs available from studio sessions at the Studio Suite, in Glendale, CA. Songs receiving airplay on KROQ, & KXLU. Photo’s of resulting latter sessions can be found on Walter Egan’s “Lost Album” on Renaissance Records. There are also consequent live band sessions now available for streaming upon ITunes etc.

“To me, music, in songwriting is similar to a fantastic meal. And the lyrics are as, salt, pepper, & spice that we add to a fantastic meal in making it just right.”

“I was initially a lyricist as early as seventh grade. I wrote poetry in fourth grade. Chords I utilized to the metered verse, and consequently, I began writing music also.

Songs were a bit complicated for me to actually perform in my early years in public. So my writing ability was ahead of my performing ability. I could hear all the music in my head though, or I had transcribed onto page, and knew how it would sound.” I had a great teacher who taught me how to transcribe notes and chords for my original songs.

Continuing, “Through much effort, I formed a band in my early twenties & some of the rehearsals were recorded on a portable, cassette device. Electric guitars & cymbal crashes were very forgiving if I missed fingering chords from failing to rehearse as often as I’d have liked. A few years after that, & being unable to keep these musician’s together I ventured back to music clubs similar to famed Roxy or Whiskey a go-go. Some of the music clubs were being replaced by open mic night nights at sandwich/coffee cafe’s or bars?”

“I adapted my electric, guitar songs to my Ovation acoustic guitar, & it was a bit frustrating for some at clubs to listen to. No cymbal crashes anymore. As before though, I had it all in my head or on the page. I also knew, what the band, rehearsal’s I had just came from, sounded like. My band did not return though, so I stayed performing in various coffee shop venues around Los Angeles on my acoustic guitar during the late eighties fumbling through those original tunes and hoping to covered. At this time also, I had been an understudy of Berton Averre of The Knack. Drum sounds or lack there of, were a big part of rock and roll before Grunge finally appeared. Dry production, wet production etc? Many recordings illustrated then like, Lone Justice’s I Found Love, Danny Wilde’s Time Runs Wild, Tonio K.’s Without Love, include a snare drum and bass drum, to a vocal, seemingly without bass. It’s very difficult to listen to and it was a difficult time because production or lack there of again was over shadowing songs and songwriting. Songs rarely sounded in concert, as were heard on CD. Not until recordings like, Nevermind by Nirvana, Guns and Roses Use Your Illusion, and ARC Angels was this, sort of, production inhibition overcome. It seemed like there was no rock and roll between eighty three and ninety one. So that’s why folk music was on such an up surge. Acoustic guitar act’s like Tracey Chapman & Jewel, emerged from such venues. Music is still impacted today by female artist’s that bare roots to late eighties folk.”

Influences: Jethro Tull, The Who.
Sounds Like: Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, Linkin Park, Paramore, Traffic

Making a musical recording or performance is a lot like a play. Learn your instrument parts & then integrate your sounds. These recording's here, consist mainly of two guitar and vocal. Anyone else can add a bass, keyboard, drum parts, or a proper vocal, as they please! My writing consisting of metered verse, songwriting, & a music library catalog from 1977 until present, currently via moniker, Muted; Piano; Keys MusicBMI.

Along the musical journey, Brent Alan Beck worked with Berton Averre of The Knack, Billy Steele of Steve Perry, Robert Kuroptuwa of Jan Berry, Walter Egan of Columbia Records & Backstreet/MCA Records fame & featured in the movie, "Boogie Nights" plus author of rock 'n' roll biography, "Top Ten." While working with Walter Egan in the eighties, was fortunate enough to get some enormous tips from the late Randy California of the r'n'r group, Spirit. Many notes shared from Randy to me, such as that Jimi Hendrix used to tune his guitar to the key of, "C." Also, that the Spirit sound is mainly achieved by plugging his guitar into a bass amplifier, instead of a guitar amplifier. I was present when Randy California played his Jackson Guitar for the lead on a Walter Egan song called, "Invisible Man" which can be found on Walter Egan's Lost Album for Renaissance Records. Randy California also lent me his advice about preparation for performing by stating all you do is: "Turn On" for the stage, & then, "Turn Off" when leaving. Randy also insisted to always warm up before a performance with scales & finger exercises. Photos from that session; including myself; can be found on that compact disc from Walter Egan called The Lost Album, on the Renaissance Label. Additionally worked with: Roger "It's My Life/Animals" Atkins, of Screen Gems/Monkeys fame, Tony Zamora of Tremoloco & Wild Colonials, James Snodgrass of Bangles, Eddie Munoz of The Plimsouls, Stanley T., Jack Sherman of Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Diamond of Berlin, Ron Parker of Christians In Art. "My professional career could have been deemed as starting in high school serving as a roadie for Robbie Rist doing frequent shows at the world famous Troubador in Hollywood." Robbie Rist opened for Jamie James' Kingbees, & Brian Wild & Livewire/B. Wild very often, and also, in the years of 1979 & 1980 Robbie Krieger of the Doors showed up often to perform guitar with Helena Springs. The Missing Link played and performed with members listed, from 1986 to 1988. The Quest played together from 1988 to 1991. Members of The Quest: Jim Stokes, Lead Guitar; Bob Stokes, Bass Guitar; Thaddeus M. Francis, Lead Vocalist & Guitar; Rick Casono, Drums; Brent Alan Beck. In nineteen ninety-one I started playing live solo performances in Los Angeles, CA at places such as: The Central/Viper Room, Music Machine, Our House, 8121 Club, The Troubadour, Be-Bop Records, Natural Fudge Company, 14 Below, & various other venues. Studied with following teachers in Los Angeles, CA. Vocal instruction: Gloria Bennett, Kathy Ellis, Mike Campbell, Seth Riggs-Helen of Wilson/Phillips. Guitar Instruction: Chuck Holden, Ted LaBash. Keyboard Instruction: Dennis Haggerty KC. Valley College: Sound Engineering, Vocal Instruction. Missing Link Us Los Angeles, California

I handed a cassette to then Columbia Artist Walter Egan at The Lighthouse Cafe in Hermosa Beach, CA in 1985. Walter Egan proceeded to record & produce four song ep, receiving airplay on KROQ & college radio. A stronger vocalist was needed. Funding could not be obtained to entice the band members from pursuing other ambition in the; then; very strong business sector, where they remain to this day. ... more
